Electors to Meet Monday to Cast Votes for Next President
BISMARCK - Governor John Hoeven will chair a historic meeting Monday of North Dakota’s three presidential electors, who are scheduled to cast their ballots for the next president and vice president of the United States.
The meeting is scheduled for 1 p.m. Monday in the governor’s conference room at the state Capitol. It is expected to last about 20 minutes.
North Dakota’s three electors for Governor George W. Bush and Dick Cheney are former Governor Ed Schafer, former Lt. Governor Rosemarie Myrdal, and former state Sen. Bryce Streibel of Fessenden.
The closeness of this year’s election has drawn intense attention to the Electoral College, which is charged under Article II, Section 1 of the U.S. Constitution with selecting the president.
Barring unexpected circumstances, Governor Bush will receive 271 electoral college votes to 267 for Vice President Al Gore. The presidential inauguration is on Jan. 20.
