Hoeven Announces 2002 Governor's Chorus And Band

BISMARCK, N.D. - Governor and First Lady John and Mikey Hoeven today announced that the Maddock High School Choir has been named the 2002 Governor’s Chorus and the Dickinson High School Band has been named the 2002 Governor’s Band. Selection for this prestigious honor was based on the achievement and musical talent demonstrated by the ensembles, as well as their commitment to community service.

The Maddock High School Choir is a 53-member ensemble comprised of students in grades nine through twelve. The choir makes numerous community appearances during the year and performs three traditional concerts and one dinner theater production each year. The choir has a tradition of extensive involvement in regional and state music contests, and members have been selected to take part in the Northwest Festival of Music, the UND Honor Choir, and the All State Choir. The Maddock High School Choir has toured thoughout North Dakota.

The Dickinson High School Band is comprised of 91 students in grades nine through twelve. Their community service record includes performances at the Roughrider Parade and the Dickinson State University Homecoming Parade, the Memorial Day and Veterans Day Services, athletic events and jazz festivals. The Dickinson High School Band students are regularly represented in the Dickinson State University Northern Plains Honor Band and the North Dakota All-State Honor Band, and the group performs concerts four times a year.

The Governor’s Chorus, under the direction of Rachel Markestad, and the Governor’s Band, under the direction of Jeff Vranna, will be performing at the State of the State Address on January 16 at the State Capitol.
