$3 Million FEMA Grant Awarded For Fargo Storm Sewer Project
BISMARCK, N.D. - The Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) today announced the approval of a federal grant of $3,072,347 for Fargo to construct a relief storm sewer along 17th and 18th Avenues South from West Gateway Drive to the Red River. The total cost of the project is expected to be $6,818,064.
“This is another important step in our continuing commitment to help ensure that the residents and business owners in the city of Fargo will be better protected from future flood losses,” FEMA Director Joe M. Albaugh said.
This project also includes constructing a relief storm sewer to serve low-lying property along 25th Street South from DeMores Drive to 20th Avenue South, Prairie Lane and 19th Street South. A lift station will also be built within Lindenwood Park.
“We will continue to work together with FEMA to ensure proper flood protection in the Fargo area,” Governor Hoeven said.
The federal grant, representing 45% of the projected project cost, was awarded through FEMA’s Hazard Mitigation Grant Program (HMGP). The HMGP is designed to help break the cycle of damage and repair common in areas prone to disaster. The program is administered by the state Division of Emergency Management.
