Hoeven Appoints John Irby to East Central Judicial District Judgeship
BISMARCK, N.D. - Governor John Hoeven today announced that he has appointed John Irby of Casselton to the East Central Judicial District judgeship, chambered in Fargo.
Irby, now in private practice, has a long history of accomplishments that qualify him for the position, according to Hoeven.
“John Irby has outstanding credentials, with a very well-rounded background,” Hoeven said. “He brings many years of broad and distinguished experience to the position, not only in the field of law, but also in business.”
Irby, a 1981 graduate of the University of Wyoming College of Law, is currently in private practice with Burgum & Irby of Casselton, N.D. He has served as Casselton city prosecutor and assistant city attorney since 1982. Irby is also a former president of the Cass County Bar Association. In addition to his activities in the legal field, Irby served as the chairman of the Casselton Job Development Authority for seven years.
Irby’s tentative start date is May 1, 2002.
“We had five strong and outstanding finalists,” Hoeven said. “It wasn’t an easy decision. John has a diversified background. He’ll serve the people of the East Central District with the same distinction he has served his community in numerous other important positions.”
