Hoeven Announces $3.3 Million USDA Water Loan and Grant Package for Southwest North Dakota
BISMARCK, N.D. - Governor Hoeven announced today that the USDA has awarded a $3.3 million water loan and grant package for the Bowman-Scranton Project. U.S. Deputy Secretary of Agriculture Jim Moseley informed the governor of the award, along with $440,000 in additional funds for rural development, during his visit to North Dakota.
Funds designated to the North Dakota State Water Commission for the Bowman Scranton Project will be used for construction of a pipeline, water storage tanks and a reservoir for the Bowman-Scranton Regional Service Area phase of the Southwest Pipeline Project. The package includes a $1,864,000 loan and a $1,500,000 grant.
“We are committed to ensuring that our communities across the state have access to good clean water,” Hoeven said. “Statewide development of this part of our infrastructure is vital to accomplishing our economic development goals; we are pleased that the USDA is providing financial assistance to further our water development efforts.”
According to Hoeven, $6.6 million in grant funds are being added to the project by the State of North Dakota. More than 200 additional customers will benefit from this project. Portions of the project are located in the Southwest Rural Economic Area Partnership (REAP) zone.
Additional funds included in the USDA rural development package for North Dakota includes:
- $138,518 Grant to United Telephone Mutual Aid Corporation in Langdon to install a weather radio transmitter in Rolla;
- $175,000 Rural Economic Development Loan to Dakota Valley Electric Cooperative, Inc., in Milnor, N.D. for the construction of a building that will be leased to Green Implement, Inc. for the establishment of a truck repair service center. This project will create approximately 6 new jobs in the area;
- $240,000 Rural Economic Development Loan to Consolidated Telecom in Dickinson, N.D. to provide a loan to the Wurst Shop in purchasing a building and equipment to expand the existing business.
“We will continue to work together with the USDA in our efforts to strengthen our rural communities,” Hoeven said. “These projects represent a real commitment on the part of the Administration’s partnership with the state to promote assistance in economic and community development on the local level.”
