Hoeven Announces STOP Funds For 2002
BISMARCK, N.D. - Governor Hoeven announced today that the state has received an $814,000 STOP Violence Against Women Formula Grant through the U.S. Department of Justice under the STOP Violence Against Women Act of 2000.
STOP funds are used to promote the development and implementation of effective, victim-centered law enforcement, prosecution and court strategies to address violent crimes against women, and the development and enhancement of victims’ services in cases involving violent crimes against women. States and communities are encouraged to restructure and strengthen the criminal justice system response to domestic violence, sexual assault and stalking, using the experience of all participants in the system, including victim advocates.
In 2001, the North Dakota STOP Violence Against Women Advisory Committee awarded STOP funds to various law enforcement, prosecution and victim service agencies; and to hospitals and colleges to support projects that addressed domestic violence, sexual assault, stalking and dating violence issues. This is the seventh year North Dakota has received STOP funds.
Applications for STOP funds are now available by contacting the North Dakota Department of Health at 701-328-3340.
