Hoeven Names Askvig Student Member Of Board Of Higher Education
BISMARCK, N.D. - Governor John Hoeven today named Joshua J. Askvig, a junior at Dickinson State University, the student member to the Board of Higher Education.
"We had exceptional candidates," Hoeven said. "Josh's academic standing, civic involvement and understanding of the university system will make him a strong and active member of the board. Also, coming from Dickinson State University, he brings good geographical representation to the board."
Askvig has shown great leadership and academic talent as an undergraduate at Dickinson State University, where he is earning a degree in elementary education, with a minor in political science.
He is currently a member of the prestigious Theodore Roosevelt Scholars program, an academic honors program, and has served on the Student Senate since 2000, as both freshman and on-campus representative. He currently is a member of the State and Legislative Affairs committee of the North Dakota Student Association.
In addition, he has served as the historian of the Student Ambassadors, a group of outstanding students who serve to promote and strengthen the university. Askvig will study overseas this summer at Wroxton College in England.
"Josh is a young leader who cares deeply about North Dakota, and he's also a team player," Hoeven said. "I am sure he will make a notable contribution to the goals and objectives of higher education in North Dakota."
