BISMARCK, N.D. - Governor John Hoeven announced today that he has proclaimed Tuesday, May 7, 2002, Teacher Day in North Dakota. Teachers in the state will be saluted throughout Teacher Appreciation Week, May 6-10, as students, parents, school administrators and the general public celebrate the teaching profession.
“Education is a basic element in individual growth and the growth of our state,” Hoeven said. “This is a time to honor our educators and recognize the lasting contributions they make, and have made, in all of our lives.”
Hoeven issued the proclamation for Teacher Day, and jointly Teacher Appreciation Week, in cooperation with the nationwide observance by the National Education Association and the National Parent Teacher Association.
“Our teachers are role models, motivators, mentors, and listeners,” Hoeven said. “Their influence shapes our lives long after our school days are over.”
