Hoeven Contacts EPA Regional Administrator Regarding Statement On Devils Lake Outlet
BISMARCK, N.D. - Governor John Hoeven today said he called Robert E. Roberts, administrator of EPA region 8, yesterday to express his disappointment with the agency’s public statement Wednesday regarding an outlet at Devils Lake. Hoeven reaffirmed the state’s commitment to working with the Army Corps of Engineers to ensure that water quality standards are met.
“North Dakota has worked in good faith with Corps - and in fact with all parties - to ensure that this project is completed in an environmentally responsible way,” Hoeven said. “We’re committed to working with the Corps and moving forward with the outlet.”
EPA assistant regional administrator Max Dodson withdrew the agency’s statement today, saying the remarks were inappropriate.
