Hoeven Directs Flags To Be Flown At Half-Staff On Wednesday, May 15, For Peace Officers Memorial Day

BISMARCK, N.D. - Governor John Hoeven today directed all government agencies to fly United States and North Dakota flags at half-staff on Wednesday, May 15, Peace Officers Memorial Day. Hoeven has proclaimed May 15 a day of tribute for North Dakota’s law enforcement community. Morgan Quitno Press has named North Dakota the safest state in the nation for the sixth year in a row, according to Hoeven.

“On Peace Officers Memorial Day we pay tribute to the courageous men and women of law enforcement, who watch over our communities night and day to make North Dakota a safe place to live and work. We honor those who have given their lives in the line of duty, and those who continue to serve by their shining example, to ensure that we may live free from fear and violence.”

In 1994, Congress enacted a law requiring the American flag to be lowered to half-staff on May 15 in honor of the more than 15,000 law enforcement officers who have died in the line of duty.
