Hoeven Recognizes Presidential Scholars
BISMARCK, N.D. - Governor John Hoeven recognized two North Dakota students today for their achievement as 2002 Presidential Scholars. The U.S. Department of Education notified Hoeven of the scholars, selected for their leadership; scholarship; contribution to school and community; and outstanding accomplishments in the arts, sciences and other fields of interest.
John R. Engelman, a senior at St. Mary’s Central High School in Bismarck, and Melissa J. Hanson, a senior at Turtle Lake-Mercer High School in Turtle Lake, were selected as 2002 Presidential Scholars for North Dakota. They were chosen from a field of nearly 2.5 million graduating seniors in the U.S.
“These students have proven themselves to be the best of the best in our state and nation,” Hoeven said. “We are proud of their hard work and dedication and wish them the best of luck in their continuing studies.”
