Hoeven Announces President Bush's Nomination Of David Carpenter As North Dakota's U.S. Marshal
BISMARCK, N.D. - Governor John Hoeven today announced that President Bush has nominated David Carpenter of Moffit as North Dakota’s new U.S. Marshal. Carpenter currently serves as a deputy U.S. marshal in Bismarck.
“Dave will serve as U.S. marshal with the same professionalism and distinction that he has served in his role as deputy marshal,” Hoeven said. “President Bush has made an excellent choice. North Dakota will be well served.”
Carpenter has served with the Marshal Service in North Dakota since 1989, and prior to that, he served for 10 years on the Jamestown city police department. He is a native of Lamoure County.
North Dakota’s U.S. marshal and deputy marshal are based in Fargo. In addition to Fargo, 10 marshals serve throughout the state, in Bismarck, Grand Forks, and Minot.
The U.S. Marshal Service is the nation’s oldest federal law-enforcement agency. It protects federal facilities and ensures the effective operation of the federal judicial system. Marshals provide security, track fugitives and transport prisoners and witnesses in federal court cases.
Carpenter's nomination now awaits U.S. Senate approval.
