BISMARCK, N.D. - Governor John Hoeven today issued a proclamation for a Moment of Remembrance on Memorial Day, calling upon all North Dakotans to observe a minute of reflection at 3:00 p.m. on Memorial Day to remember those who died in service to our country.

"We have so much to be thankful for, yet in our busy lives, we often don’t take the time to remember those who fought and died for our country,”; Hoeven said. "I encourage all North Dakotans to pause for a minute of observance this Memorial Day, to honor the many people who made the ultimate sacrifice for the freedoms and liberties we hold so dear.”

The National Moment of Remembrance on Memorial Day, May 27, was formally established by an act of Congress to encourage Americans to reclaim the holiday for its original purpose - to honor fellow citizens who died in service to the United States.

Hoeven noted that the one-minute pause in activities at 3 p.m. is not intended to replace Memorial Day ceremonies, but to highlight the purpose of Memorial Day.

"The National Moment of Remembrance is a small gesture to show our gratitude and respect for great acts of bravery. It is an important moment for everyone to acknowledge, so that we never forget their sacrifices,” Hoeven said.
