North Dakota Honored With Award Of Excellence
BISMARCK, N.D. - Governor John Hoeven today accepted the 2002 Award of Excellence from Polycom®, Inc. in recognition of North Dakota STAGEnet network. Polycom®, Inc. is a worldwide leader in the convergence of interactive voice, video and data communications.
North Dakota STAGEnet is a video network that provides high-speed, broadband connections to 192 North Dakota communities and 202 schools for a total of 456 sites. STAGEnet provides video connections to 140 classrooms, with an additional 80 classrooms projected by mid-2003.
“This award from Polycom® recognizes our commitment to leveraging technology advances to enhance the lives of our citizens,” Hoeven said. “Technology is transforming government, business and schools in unprecedented ways. Through the use of our interactive video communications systems, we are providing our students the highest quality of education, regardless of where they are attending school.”
In January of this year, the Governor utilized the network in his 2002 State of the State address to North Dakota citizens throughout the state.
“Because of the state’s advancements in video technology, our students and students throughout the state have curriculum opportunities that were not previously available,” said Debby Marshall, Superintendent of Towner, Granville & Upham Schools. “A large number of Towner, Granville & Upham Schools’ students have taken advantage of the dual credit course offerings, giving them an early start on their post secondary education.”
The North Dakota University System's Interactive Video Network currently provides scheduling, bridging and technical support for videoconference rooms connected to STAGEnet.
