BISMARCK, N.D. - Governor John Hoeven announced today that the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) and the United States Fire Administration (USFA) have released $361,960 in grant funds for fire operations and firefighter safety to several rural North Dakota communities through the 2002 Assistance to Firefighters Grant Program.
The award recipients for North Dakota are:
- Billings County Rural Fire Department (Medora): $35,370
- Dahlen Rural Fire Department: $13,504
- Starkweather Fire Protection District: $79,580
- Underwood Fire Protection District: $157,105
- Thompson Rural Fire Protection District: $76,401
“FEMA’s continuing commitment to securing fire operations and safety funds for North Dakota is greatly welcomed and appreciated,” Hoeven said. “These grant monies are enhancing the operation of our rural fire departments and ensuring the safety of our communities.”
The Assistance to Firefighters Grant Program is designed as a cooperation effort between FEMA and the U.S. Congress to enhance basic fire service delivery across the United States. More than 5,000 departments will receive over $360 million to support fire protection, Emergency Medical Services delivery, vehicle purchase and prevention programs in 2002.
