First Lady Gives Early Christmas Present To Students Across North Dakota

BISMARCK, N.D. - First Lady Mikey L. Hoeven, will participate in the 2nd annual North Dakota “Scholastic Book Clubs Read for 2003” on Friday, December 6 at 12:30 p.m. MT, at the Dickinson Public Library, and will award donated books to various school libraries across the state. “Read for 2003” is the world’s largest classroom reading event, joining together kids, teachers, parents and friends for 2,003 seconds of reading.

Scholastic Books donated 500 general reading books to the Office of the First Lady in support of the reading initiative. Mrs. Hoeven will pool the names of all the elementary schools throughout the state and draw one name from each of the eight regions and donate 50 books to each school library. In addition to the school libraries, the Dickinson Public Library will receive 100 books.

“Reading is such an integral part of the learning process for children,” Hoeven said. “We are thankful to Scholastic Books for enabling us to make this an annual event for the schools and libraries throughout our state.”
