Hoeven Announces Firefighter Grants Totaling $330,684
BISMARCK, N.D. - Gov. John Hoeven announced today that the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) and the United States Fire Administration (USFA) have released $330,684 in grant funds for fire operations and firefighter safety to several rural North Dakota communities through the 2002 Assistance to Firefighters Grant Program.
The award recipients for North Dakota are:
- Arthur Fire Protection District: $86,489
- Walcott Fire Department: $76,205
- Bismarck Fire and Inspections Department: $105,000
- Bismarck Rural Fire Department: $62,990
“These funds are essential for the protection of our citizens and our communities,” Hoeven said. “FEMA’s ongoing commitment to helping our communities and firefighters is appreciated.”
President George W. Bush and Congress have made this significant investment possible through FEMA and the USFA. These funds will be used by the nation’s firefighters to increase the effectiveness of firefighting operations, fire fighter health and safety programs, new fire apparatus, EMS programs and Fire Prevention and Safety Programs. FEMA and the USFA expect to announce more than 5,500 grants before the end of the calendar year. The total of all awards, when completed, will represent a $360 million investment to enhance fire and EMS service delivery nationwide.
The Assistance for Firefighters Grant Program assists rural, urban and suburban fire departments throughout the United States. A list of all current award recipients announced to date is posted on the USFA website at www.usfa.fema.gov/grants. Future grant recipients will be listed as the awards are made.
