Hoeven Named Vice Chairman Of The Midwestern Governors' Conference
BISMARCK, N.D. - Governor John Hoeven has been named vice chairman of the Midwestern Governors’ Conference (MGC), a nonprofit, bipartisan organization of 13 states that brings together top state leaders to work cooperatively on public policy issues of significance to the Midwestern region. Gov. Bob Holden is the chairman this year; Hoeven will become chairman of the group in 2004.
“Our new role in the MGC gives us another opportunity to address issues critical to the future of the Midwest and North Dakota,” Hoeven said. “We look forward to participating in an organization that advocates for solid policy on a range of issues for our state and region.”
Key issues before the MGC this year are agriculture, regional economic development and methamphetamine. In the past, the group has addressed policy regarding the 2002 Farm Bill, agroterrorism, identifying cooperative economic development initiatives and pooling resources in the battle against meth.
The MGC met in Washington, D.C. on Sunday, February 23 in conjunction with the National Governors Association meeting.
