BISMARCK, N.D. - Gov. John Hoeven announced today that the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) and the United States Fire Administration (USFA) have released $224,569 in grant funds to be divided among fire departments in Dunseith, Mohall, Mayville and the Spirit Lake Tribe at Fort Totten.

The grants break down to $35,145 for the Dunseith Fire Protection District; $12,191 for the Mohall Fire Department; and $37,733 for the Mayville Volunteer Fire Department for fire operations and firefighter safety programs in each of these districts. The Spirit Lake Fire Department will receive $139,500 for use toward a firefighting vehicle.

The Assistance to Firefighters Grant Program is designed as a cooperative effort between FEMA and the U.S. Congress to enhance basic fire service delivery across the United States. FEMA and the USFA expect to announce a total of approximately 7,000 grants this year. The total of all awards, when completed, will represent a $750 million investment to enhance fire and EMS services delivery nationwide.

The Assistance to Firefighters Grant Program assists rural, urban and suburban fire departments through the United States. Current information on grant requests by state is posted on the USFA website.
