Hoeven Kicks Off Project Childsafe
National Firearm Safety Program To Distribute Gun Locks Statewide
BISMARCK, N.D. - Gov. John Hoeven today kicked off Project ChildSafe, a program to distribute free gun locks and firearm safety material across the state. North Dakota is the first state to take part in the national program this year.
Local law enforcement groups from across North Dakota will partner with the National Shooting Sports Foundation (NSSF) to distribute 76,000 free gun locks in the state, including 20,000 during the State Fair in Minot.
“Keeping our children safe is a key priority in our state,” Hoeven said. “Proper education, including programs like Project ChildSafe, helps ensure safe use of firearms. We are proud that Project ChildSafe has chosen North Dakota to launch their national campaign.”
Project ChildSafe, funded by a $50 million grant from the U.S. Department of Justice, was developed and is managed by the NSSF.
“Governor Hoeven’s leadership is the reason for the partnership between Project ChildSafe and the state of North Dakota. The Governor’s commitment to firearm safety and education is clear. We are happy to work with him to promote the safe storage and use of firearms in North Dakota,” said Dee Dee Dockins, spokesperson for the NSSF.
