Hoeven: Presidential Disaster Declaration To Bring Funding To Minnkota Power Cooperative
BISMARCK, N.D. - Gov. John Hoeven announced today that the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) has made funding available in Barnes county to help recover from the effects of a series of storms. The damage was a result of severe summer storms and high winds on June 24-25, 2003. The funding was made available after Hoeven requested a Presidential Disaster Declaration from President George W. Bush.
The declaration covers damage to power transmission towers and lines belonging to consumer owned Minnkota Power Cooperative in Barnes County.
"This funding will allow the cooperative to continue to provide essential services," Hoeven said. “The disaster declaration is very important to the rural residents and agriculture-related businesses in the areas affected by the severe June storm.”
The assistance was authorized under a major disaster declaration requested by Hoeven and issued by President Bush following a review of the state’s request for assistance.
Doug Friez, North Dakota Emergency Management Director, will coordinate delivery of the recovery assistance on behalf of the state.
