Hoeven Meets With US DOE Assistant Secretary Michael Smith
BISMARCK, N.D. - Gov. John Hoeven today met with U. S. Department of Energy Assistant Secretary Michael Smith at Dakota Gasification Plant, near Beulah, on a range of North Dakota Energy issues.
“I am very pleased to have Assistant Secretary Smith here in North Dakota,” Hoeven said. “With North Dakota being both the 6th largest energy producing state, and one of the most diversified energy producers in the country, we can accomplish a lot by working together with the Department of Energy.”
In his meeting with Smith, Hoeven stressed the importance of a partnership between the state, the Department of Energy and other federal agencies such as the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission on projects in North Dakota including the production of natural gas and its bi-products at the Dakota Gasification Plant, pilot projects for shallow well natural gas and coal bed methane drilling.
“Energy development, in both traditional and renewable sources, is one of our targeted industries for growth,” Hoeven said. “Not only will energy development bring quality, higher paying jobs to the state, North Dakota’s production can help meet the energy needs of our country.”
