Hoeven Announces $484,926 In Grants For North Dakota Fire Departments

BISMARCK, N.D. - Gov. John Hoeven announced today that the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) and the United States Fire Administration (USFA) have released $484,926 in grant funds to fire departments in Tower City, Walcott, Dunseith, Rugby, Bismarck and Towner.

The grant breaks down to $49,122 for the Tower City Rural Fire Protection District; $21,060 for the Rugby Volunteer Fire Department; $61,227 for the Bismarck Rural Fire Department; and $51,918 for the Towner Fire Department, to be used for fire operations and firefighter safety programs in each district. The Walcott Fire Department will receive $137,799 and the Dunseith City Fire Department will receive $163,800 for use towards the purchase of firefighting vehicles.

The Assistance to Firefighters Grant Program is designed as a cooperative effort between FEMA and the U.S. Congress to enhance basic fire service delivery across the United States. FEMA and the USFA expect to announce a total of approximately 7,000 grants this year. The total of all awards, when completed, will represent a $750 million investment to enhance fire and emergency medical services delivery nationwide.

The Assistance to Firefighters Grant Program assists rural, urban and suburban fire departments through the United States. Current information on grant requests by state is posted on the USFA website. Future grant recipients will be listed as the awards are made.
