BISMARCK, N.D. - Gov. John Hoeven announced today that the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) and the United States Fire Administration (USFA) have released $599,324 in grant funds to fire departments in Gilby, Billings County, Garrison, Carrington, Deering, Neche and West Dunn.

The grant breaks down to $70,677 for the Gilby Fire Protection District; $27,000 for the Billings County Rural Fire Department; $36,990 for the Garrison Fire Department; $164,367 for the Carrington Rural Fire Department; and $60,620 for the Deering Fire Protection District, to be used for fire operations and firefighter safety programs in each district. The Neche Fire Department will receive $135,990 and the West Dunn Fire District will receive $103,680 for use towards the purchase of firefighting vehicles.

The Assistance to Firefighters Grant Program is designed as a cooperative effort between FEMA and the U.S. Congress to enhance basic fire service delivery across the United States. FEMA and the USFA expect to announce a total of approximately 7,000 grants this year. The total of all awards, when completed, will represent a $750 million investment to enhance fire and emergency medical services delivery nationwide.

The Assistance to Firefighters Grant Program assists rural, urban and suburban fire departments through the United States. Current information on grant requests by state is posted on the USFA website. Future grant recipients will be listed as the awards are made.
