Dalrymple Tours Edgeley-Kulm Wind Farm

BISMARCK, N.D. - Lt. Gov. Jack Dalrymple, along with legislators and other officials, today got a progress report on the new Edgeley-Kulm wind farm. The tour featured the facility’s first live test of the system. The $63 million complex currently has 30 of its 41 towers installed, and expects to be operational with the remaining 11 towers online by next month. It will have an average output of 24 megawatts of electricity.

“It was striking how elegant and beautiful, yet how functional the towers are,” Dalrymple said. “In keeping with the Governor’s multi-source energy strategy, this facility will contribute not only a clean, efficient source of energy to North Dakota’s energy mix, but also higher paying jobs for our citizens.”

Dennis Anderson, chairman of the Edgeley Economic Development Corp.’s Wind Committee, and John DiDonato, project director for Florida Power and Light Co, led the tour. The facility is a partnership with Basin Electric Cooperative and Ottertail Power. Todd Langston of Ottertail Power, Ron Rebenitsch of Basin Electric Cooperative and Mark Sherman of Central Power Cooperative also accompanied the tour.

“The project has been a model of cooperation,” Dalrymple said. “The promoters of the facility needed a location with ample wind -- the state Department of Commerce stepped up to help them with test towers and planning funds. When the company needed local support and leases, Edgeley-Kulm developers and landowners stepped up, as well. As a consequence, next month we will have North Dakota’s first wind farm.”
