BISMARCK, N.D. - Gov. John Hoeven announced today that the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) and the United States Fire Administration (USFA) have released $282,058 in grant funds to fire departments in Harvey, Lawton, Douglas, Ellendale, Burlington, Binford and New England.

The grant breaks down to $14,490 for the Harvey Rural Fire Protection District; $34,094 for the Lawton Fire Department; $60,264 for the Douglas Fire Protection District; $12,960 for the Ellendale Fire Protection District; $87,779 for the Burlington Fire Department; $23,419 for the Binford Fire Protection District; and $49,050 for the New England Rural Fire Protection District to be used for fire operations and firefighter safety programs in each district.

The Assistance to Firefighters Grant Program is designed as a cooperative effort between FEMA and the U.S. Congress to enhance basic fire service delivery across the United States. FEMA and the USFA expect to announce a total of approximately 7,000 grants this year. The total of all awards, when completed, will represent a $750 million investment to enhance fire and emergency medical services delivery nationwide.

The Assistance to Firefighters Grant Program assists rural, urban and suburban fire departments through the United States. Current information on grant requests by state is posted on the USFA website. Future grant recipients will be listed as the awards are made.
