Hoeven To Pay Tribute To Veterans And N.D. Military
Governor To Participate In Veterans Day F-16 Flyovers

BISMARCK, N.D. - Gov. John Hoeven will pay tribute to North Dakota’s military men and women on Veterans Day, Tuesday, November 11, 2003, by participating in F-16 flyovers of memorial ceremonies in Bismarck, Fargo and West Fargo.

The Governor will pay tribute to our nation’s veterans, all active military personnel, reservists and National Guard members who are deployed around the world. The Governor will also honor the families of those who are serving for their sacrifices at home. North Dakota Army and Air National Guard are currently serving in Iraq, Afghanistan and other locations worldwide in support of the Global War Against Terrorism.

“This year, with North Dakotans in uniform serving overseas, we especially need to remember and honor the extraordinary sacrifices our veterans and their families have made for our country throughout our history,” Hoeven said. “We pray for the speedy and safe return of our military men and women who are now in harm’s way around the world. Our thoughts and prayers are with them, today and every day of the year.”

Hoeven said the state is also grateful for the outstanding support and understanding shown to our military men and women by the state’s employers, who have had to substitute employees when National Guard members and reservists have been called up to active duty.

“Family, friends and employers also bear a large burden when our troops are called up to serve,” Hoeven said. “In addition to our prayers, we need to continue to express our appreciation and offer our support and encouragement to them.”

The F-16 on which Hoeven will fly is scheduled to take off from Fargo Air Base at 10 a.m. Flyovers will take place at the following times and locations:

  • 10:30 a.m. - Bismarck Amvets Ceremony - Bismarck Capitol Grounds
  • 11:00 a.m. - United Patriotic Bodies Ceremony - Fargo Civic Center
  • 11:05 a.m. - Veterans of Foreign Wars Ceremony - West Fargo Main Street
