Hoeven Announces More Than Half A Million Dollars In Grants For Community Fire Departments
BISMARCK, N.D. - Gov. John Hoeven announced today that the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) and the United States Fire Administration (USFA) have released $562,244 in grant funds to fire departments in seven North Dakota communities.
The grant breaks down to $53,946 for the Carpio Fire Department; $49,320 for the Hoople Rural Fire Protection District; $80,393 for the Turtle Lake Rural Fire Protection District, and $61,290 for the West Fargo Fire Department to be used for fire operations and firefighter safety programs in each district.
Three communities will receive funds for the purchase of firefighting vehicles: $162,000 for the Kindred Community Fire Department, $80,595 for the Langdon Rural Fire Protection District, and $74,700 for the Mandan Rural Fire Protection District.
The Assistance to Firefighters Grant Program is designed as a cooperative effort between FEMA and the U.S. Congress to enhance basic fire service delivery across the United States and provide departments with the tools and resources necessary to protect the health and safety of the public and their firefighting personnel.
FEMA and the USFA expect to announce a total of approximately 7,000 grants this year. The total of all awards, when completed, will represent a $750 million investment to enhance fire and EMS services delivery nationwide. Current information on grant requests by state is posted on the USFA webite.
