Hoeven Announces Fire Grant for the Community of Surrey
BISMARCK, N.D. - Gov. John Hoeven announced today that the Surrey Fire Protection District will receive $24,840 from the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) and the United States Fire Administration (USFA) to be used for fire operations and firefighter safety programs in the district.
The grant will be used to train firefighters, purchase firefighting and personal protective equipment, and modify fire stations and facilities.
"It is important to train and equip our first responders who put their safety on the line every day to protect lives and property in our communities," Hoeven said. "This grant will help protect the residents of Surrey as well as the firefighters who face hazardous situations."
The Assistance to Firefighters Grant Program is designed as a cooperative effort between FEMA and the U.S. Congress to enhance basic fire service delivery across the United States and provide departments with the tools and resources necessary to protect the health and safety of the public and their firefighting personnel.
FEMA and the USFA expect to announce a total of approximately 7,000 grants this year, representing a $750 million investment in enhancing fire and EMS services delivery nationwide. Current information on grant requests by state is posted on the USFA website at www.usfa.fema.gov/fire-service/grants/grants.shtm.
