Hoeven to Meet With Ranchers Before Washington, D.C. Trip
Hoeven To Meet Monday with White House, USDA Officials
BISMARCK, N.D. - Gov. John Hoeven today announced he will meet with North Dakota cattle producers and industry leaders on Friday to gather input for his Monday meetings in Washington, D.C. regarding support for the beef industry.
The luncheon meeting with ranchers will take place on Friday, January 2, 2004 in Dickinson at 12 noon MST in the Colt Room at the Hospitality Inn, 532 15th St. W. A media availability will follow at 1:30 p.m. MST. Beef is on the menu.
Hoeven will meet Monday with Chuck Conner, agriculture advisor to President George W. Bush, and Dale Moore, Chief of Staff to U.S. Department of Agriculture Secretary Ann Veneman.
Hoeven's capital trip is part of a series of coordinated efforts by Midwestern governors to support the beef industry. At a joint news conference earlier today, he made three points:
- The U.S. Department of Agriculture's (USDA) food safety system works.
- The USDA is taking strong and appropriate follow-up steps to further secure America's meat supply.
- Governors are working together to help the USDA reopen foreign export markets to U.S. beef products.
"Our livestock industry produces the highest quality beef in the world," Hoeven said. "The industry is vital to our state and the country. We need to work not only to support our producers at home, but also to reopen world markets for American beef."
