Hoeven Announces Fire Grants For Mercer And Lidgerwood
BISMARCK, N.D. - Gov. John Hoeven announced today that the Mercer and Lidgerwood fire districts will receive a grant from the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) and the United States Fire Administration (USFA) to be used for fire operations and firefighter safety programs.
Through the Assistance to Firefighters Grant (AFG) program, the Mercer Rural Fire Protection District will receive $28,359 and the Lidgerwood Fire Protection District will receive $59,265 to train firefighters, purchase firefighting and personal protective equipment, and modify fire stations and facilities.
The AFG program is designed as a cooperative effort between FEMA and the U.S. Congress to enhance basic fire service delivery across the United States and provide departments with the tools and resources necessary to protect the health and safety of the public and their firefighting personnel.
FEMA and the USFA expect to announce a total of approximately 7,000 grants this year, representing a $750 million investment in enhancing fire and EMS services delivery nationwide. More information regarding fire grants is posted on the USFA website.
