Hoeven: Parshall's Water System Operational
BISMARCK, N.D. - Gov. John Hoeven today was notified by the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers’ Omaha District that the Parshall water supply is repaired and the community is drawing water from the temporary system installed in response to low water levels on Lake Sakakawea.
“This is important for the community of Parshall,” Hoeven said. “The installation of the temporary system is a major step forward in repairing the community’s water intake system and securing its water supply. We will continue to work with the Corps to develop a permanent solution to Parshall’s water supply problem.”
Hoeven declared a drought emergency for Parshall on November 7, 2003. He said the state continues to press the Corps to step up and fund a permanent fix, which could cost $3 to 4 million dollars and entail extending the pipeline nine miles into deeper water.
The governor also sent a letter to Chief Brig. General William T. Grisoli with the Corps’ Northwestern Division demanding that the Corps recharge the upland reservoirs and include substantive drought conservation measures in its upcoming Annual Operating Plan and Master Manual.
