North Dakota Governor John Hoeven Named Chairman Of The Midwestern Governors' Conference
LOMBARD, IL - North Dakota Governor John Hoeven has been named chairman of the Midwestern Governors' Conference (MGC), a nonprofit, bipartisan organization of 13 states that brings together top state leaders to work cooperatively on public policy issues important to the Midwest. He will serve as chairman for one year.
As chair of the organization, Hoeven will lead the efforts of his fellow Midwestern governors as they address key issues impacting the region, including education, regional economic development, agriculture, transportation and substance abuse.
"Our states have unique opportunities and challenges, and we also have much in common," Hoeven said. "We will continue to work together on mutual interests to address the needs of our region and move our efforts forward."
The MGC will meet this month, in conjunction with the National Governors Association's winter meeting in Washington, DC.
In addition to North Dakota, the other states involved in the MGC include Illinois, Indiana, Iowa, Kansas, Kentucky, Michigan, Minnesota, Missouri, Nebraska, Ohio, South Dakota and Wisconsin.
