Hoeven Calls For Zero Growth Budget, Public Employee Salary Increases - With No New Taxes
BISMARCK, N.D. - Gov. John Hoeven Monday issued his budget guidelines for state government agencies. The new plan includes a hold even (zero percent increase) budget, salary increases for state employees and no new taxes. Last biennium, Hoeven’s budget cut the rate of growth in spending in half, from 4 percent to 2 percent annually. His new guidelines also hold the line on growth in government spending, while allowing room to invest in North Dakota’s future.
“We owe it to the people of North Dakota to spend their money wisely and balance the state budget -- without any general tax increases,” Hoeven said. We also owe it to the people of North Dakota to provide them with quality services and real opportunities to build a brighter future for their children and themselves. We can do these things by focusing on our priorities and using our creativity.”
