Hoeven Announces State Assistance For Hazelton Rural Economic Development Project
BISMARCK, N.D. - Gov. John Hoeven today announced that the North Dakota Department of Commerce, Division of Community Services, and the Lewis and Clark Regional Council has awarded a Community Development Block Grant in the amount of $221,000 to the city of Hazelton for a new business complex, the Prairie Village Mall.
In addition, the Bank of North Dakota and the North Dakota Department of Commerce Development Fund are providing a $300,000 loan for the project, which is being managed by the Hazelton Development Corporation. USDA Rural Development has also approved two Rural Business Enterprise Grants for the endeavor.
The funding will help to finance new and emerging business enterprises, including a technology center, grocery store, beauty salon, three manufacturing businesses and other endeavors. Energy Technology Systems, Inc., a manufacturer of automation equipment for the electronic semiconductor industry; Dakota Sno Blade, a bi-directional snow shovel manufacturer; and McLeish’s sewing will also be housed in the complex.
“It is vitally important that we encourage and fund enterprises like the Prairie Village Mall, which represent real progress for our rural communities,” Hoeven said. “This partnership is helping to build a facility that will enable Hazelton to grow and prosper in the future.”
A groundbreaking and ribbon-cutting ceremony for the project will take place on Hazelton’s Main Street on March 31 at 2 p.m.
