Hoeven Calls On Doe For Immediate Action To Bring Down Gasoline Prices
BISMARCK, N.D. - Gov. John Hoeven today called on Energy Secretary Spencer Abraham to take immediate action to bring down record high gasoline prices. Hoeven contacted the secretary and asked for an evaluation of why fuel prices are hitting record high levels and asked for a Department of Energy (DOE) action plan to ensure fair and reasonable pricing.
“Record high gasoline prices are having a severe impact not only on our families and businesses, but also on our farmers,” Hoeven wrote. “As planting season approaches in the agricultural Midwest, our producers face a particularly daunting challenge. The cost to plant and fertilize is directly impacted by the high cost of petroleum products.”
Hoeven said he is working hard to support efforts to pass new energy legislation that increases domestic energy production, as well as solid renewable fuels production and conservation measures. “In the long term, we must build domestic energy production to enhance our energy independence,” Hoeven said. “In the short term, however, I request that you evaluate the causes of high fuel prices and provide us with an explanation of the measures the Department of Energy is taking to ensure that gasoline prices are restored to reasonable levels.”
