Hoeven: Amber Alert Test A Success
BISMARCK, N.D. - Gov. John Hoeven announced today that the state’s AMBER Alert test, which was conducted yesterday, was successful with all components functioning as planned, including the new features added to the network and tested for the first time.
“The success of this test and the added enhancements to the system reflect North Dakota’s commitment to our children and our communities,” Hoeven said. “It’s reassuring to know that the network we developed to protect our kids is functioning properly and available to support our law enforcement agencies if needed.”
Three new components were recently added to the AMBER Alert system to complement the existing network: the North Dakota Department of Transportation’s 511 travel information number, North Dakota State Lottery terminals, and the National Weather Service’s emergency weather alert system.
“The three new enhancements, as well as the rest of the system, worked as designed,” said Bryan Klipfel, superintendent of the North Dakota Highway Patrol. “The coordinated effort amongst state agencies, broadcasters, local law enforcement and others that occurred during the test was outstanding.”
Hoeven signed a proclamation in 2002 directing the development of a statewide AMBER Alert system. Since then, it has been successfully tested twice and used once to quickly disseminate information statewide regarding a possible child abduction.
