Hoeven: Burke, Mountrail And Williams Counties Eligible For FEMA Snow Emergency Funds

BISMARCK, N.D. - Gov. John Hoeven today said the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) has designated three additional counties eligible for federal snow emergency assistance. Earlier this month, FEMA designated six counties and an Indian reservation eligible for aid. Hoeven pressed for coverage of additional counties and was notified by FEMA Region VIII Director David Maurstad this afternoon that three more are now included.

The snow emergency declaration now includes Burke, Mountrail and Williams Counties, in addition to Dunn, McHenry, McKenzie, McLean, Mercer and Ward Counties, as well as the Fort Berthold Indian Reservation.

Two counties, Divide and Renville, did not qualify according to FEMA rules; Hoeven has directed Division of Emergency Management Director Doug Friez to continue to work with the agency to press for assistance to those counties.

The federal snow emergency declaration is based on damage assessment reports from local officials submitted to FEMA by the North Dakota Division of Emergency Management. The declaration will provide federal funds to reimburse overtime snow removal costs incurred by local governments and state agencies during a continuous 48-hour period. FEMA will cover up to 75 percent of all eligible costs.
