Hoeven Announces 2004-05 Governor's Band And Chorus
BISMARCK, N.D. - Gov. John Hoeven today announced the 2004-05 Governor’s Band and Chorus for the state of North Dakota. The Fargo South High Wind Symphony was named the Governor’s Band and the Bottineau High School Concert Choir was named the Governor’s Chorus.
The Fargo South High Wind Symphony, under the direction of Edward Huttlin, is Fargo South’s premier concert band, comprised of students from grades 10-12. Each year, the band performs concerts at school and throughout the community, and last year won first place at the Music Festivals Band Competition in Chicago. This January, they performed an original commissioned work commemorating the bicentennial of the Lewis and Clark Expedition, entitled “Maiden Journey: The Legend of Sacagawea.”
The Bottineau High School Concert Choir is a 50-member ensemble comprised of students from grades 9-12 and directed by Dalonnes Roemmich. The choir has performed at several conventions, banquets and tournaments throughout the state and its members have received star ratings and awards at regional and state music contests. In 2002, the group went on tour in the Minneapolis area, and will tour there again this summer.
The Governor’s Band and Chorus were selected from applications submitted by school and civic groups from across the state based on musical talent, achievement and community involvement. The band and chorus may be invited by the Governor to perform at official state functions held throughout the year, including the State of the State Address.
