Hoeven Directs Flags To Fly At Half-Staff, Calls On North Dakotans To Observe Moment Of Remembrance
BISMARCK, N.D. - In accordance with the proclamation signed by President George W. Bush, Governor Hoeven has directed all government agencies to fly the United States and North Dakota flags at half-staff until noon on Monday, May 31, in observance of Memorial Day.
In addition, Hoeven calls on all North Dakotans to observe the president’s request that Americans unite in prayer at 11:00 a.m. in each locality, and that a moment of silence be observed at 3:00 p.m. local time for the National Moment of Remembrance.
The National Moment of Remembrance on Memorial Day was formally established by an act of Congress to encourage Americans to reclaim the holiday for its original purpose - to honor fellow citizens who died in service to the United States.
