Hoeven Announces USDA Funds For North Dakota Water Emergencies
BISMARCK, N.D. - Gov. John Hoeven today announced a series of U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) Emergency and Imminent Water Assistance Grants to aid rural communities in addressing municipal water shortages owing to low water levels on the Missouri River.
The most recent USDA grants include the following:
- The City of Garrison will receive $68,500 in rural development funds to reimburse the community for costs it incurred as a result of the March 4, 2004, water outage it experienced. This grant comes in addition to a state Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) awarded last April from the Governor’s discretionary funds in the amount of $171,000 for the repair of the city’s water intake system.
- The Three Affiliated Tribes of the Fort Berthold Indian Reservation will receive $428,000 to extend the reservation’s pump intakes approximately 150 feet onto Lake Sakakawea and provide bank stabilization and erosion control over the new line.
“We will continue to do all we can to get more drought conservation on the Missouri River and give the affected communities the help they need,” Hoeven said.
