Hoeven Announces Assistance To Firefighters Grants To Aid North Dakota Fire Departments
BISMARCK, N.D. - Gov. John Hoeven announced today that four North Dakota communities will receive grants from the Department of Homeland Security in the ninth round of the Fiscal Year 2004 Assistance to Firefighters Grant Program. The grants will be used to enhance fire department operations and firefighter safety programs.
The Davenport Rural Fire Protection District will receive $24,120, the Beulah Rural Fire Protection District will receive $40,059, the New Leipzig Rural Fire Protection District will receive $49,680 and the Bowdon Fire Department will receive $17,820.
The grant program, administered by the Department's Office for Domestic Preparedness in cooperation with the United States Fire Administration (USFA), was established to ensure that America's firefighters have the resources they need to protect their communities and themselves.
Over the next several months, approximately 8,000 grants worth nearly $750 million in direct assistance will be awarded to fire departments throughout the country to assist in purchasing firefighting equipment, funding health and safety programs, enhancing medical services programs and conducting fire education and prevention programs.
