Hoeven Announces Assistance To Firefighters Grants To Aid North Dakota Fire Departments

BISMARCK, N.D. - Gov. John Hoeven today announced that the communities of Pingree, Grand Forks, LaMoure and Ashley will receive grants from the Department of Homeland Security in the latest round of the Fiscal Year 2004 Assistance to Firefighters Grant Program.

The Pingree Rural Fire Protection District will receive $34,577 and the Ashley Rural Fire Department will receive $68,580 to purchase new firefighting vehicles. The Grand Forks Fire Department will receive $28,800 to fund fire education and prevention programs and the LaMoure Fire Department will receive $9,630 to enhance firefighting operations and firefighter safety programs.

The grant program, administered by the Department’s Office for Domestic Preparedness in cooperation with the United States Fire Administration (USFA), was established to ensure that America’s firefighters have the resources they need to protect their communities and themselves.

Over the next several months, approximately 8,000 grants worth nearly $750 million in direct assistance will be awarded to fire departments throughout the country to assist in purchasing firefighting equipment, funding health and safety programs, enhancing medical services programs and conducting fire education and prevention programs.

For more information regarding fire grants, as well as a list of current grant recipients, visit the USFA Web site at www.usfa.fema.gov/fire-service/grants/.
