Hoeven Announces $1.5 Million U.S. Commerce Department Investment For Bismarck State College
Grant To Support Governor's Centers Of Excellence Initiative
BISMARCK, N.D. - Gov. John Hoeven today announced that the Bismarck State College Foundation will receive a $1.5 million grant from the federal Department of Commerce to build the Career and Technology Institute in Bismarck. The Economic Development Association (EDA) investment will help the college respond to the rapidly changing education and training needs of the state’s energy industry.
“This investment dovetails with our Centers of Excellence initiative by partnering higher education and economic development to create higher paying jobs in North Dakota,” Hoeven said. “Energy is one of our targeted industries, and in addition to creating more jobs, we are building a workforce trained to meet the qualifications for those jobs.”
Hoeven promoted support for the grant with Regional Director Robert Olson when he visited the state in September to award EDA grants to the University of North Dakota’s Center for Innovation, a Center of Excellence, in Grand Forks, and the University Centers at North Dakota State University in Fargo.
EDA serves as a venture capital resource to meet the economic development needs of communities throughout the United States. EDA partners with states, units of local government and community non-profit organizations to promote innovation and competitiveness, preparing regions for growth and success in the worldwide economy.
