First Lady Mikey Hoeven Promotes Importance Of Reading In Read For 2005 Celebration
First Lady Donates Books To Schools Across North Dakota

BISMARCK, N.D. - First Lady Mikey Hoeven has signed on to be an Ambassador of Reading for North Dakota, as part of the sixth annual Scholastic Book Clubs Read for 2005 initiative. On Friday, December 3, she will lead a statewide celebration of reading, encouraging all children, teachers and parents to take time during the day to read a book.

Hoeven will read to the second grade class at Edison Elementary School in Minot, and as part of the initiative, will donate 100 books to the school's library. She will also donate 50 books to an elementary school in each of the state's eight regions.

“Scholastic Read for 2005 is a great way to promote literacy throughout North Dakota,” Hoeven said. “Reading is such an integral part of the learning process for children and we are thankful to Scholastic Books for enabling us to make this an annual event for the schools and libraries throughout the state.”

Joining the First Lady in the Read for 2005 celebration are Gubernatorial First Spouses in states across the country.
