Hoeven Congratulates Johanns On Nomination
BISMARCK, N.D. - Gov. John Hoeven today issued the following statement in response to President Bush’s nomination of Gov. Mike Johanns of Nebraska to be secretary of the U.S. Department of Agriculture:
“Mike is an outstanding selection for secretary of agriculture. He is also a friend and colleague. First Lady Mikey and I enjoy a real friendship with Mike and Stephanie Johanns, and have a great respect for both of them.
“As the leader of Nebraska, a state similar to North Dakota, Mike will bring a Midwestern perspective to agricultural policy decisions. He is also a governor who has made agricultural trade a priority for his state, much as North Dakota has, and this experience will equip him well for the trade challenges of the future. He understands the issues and opportunities in the industry, and will work hard for our nation’s producers.
“Mike and I have worked together regularly on agriculture and trade issues over the years, and I look forward to continuing those efforts when he assumes his new role. I congratulate him, and wish him the very best for a speedy confirmation.”
