BISMARCK, N.D. - In accordance with a proclamation by President George W. Bush, Gov. John Hoeven today directed all state and national flags on public buildings in North Dakota to be flown at half-staff as a mark of respect for the victims of the Indian Ocean earthquake and tsunami. The flags will be flown at half-staff from sunrise to sunset Monday, January 3 through Friday, January 7. The death toll for the disaster is expected to exceed 150,000, and millions have been left homeless.

"North Dakotans join with the people of the world in mourning the death of thousands and the displacement of millions of people as a result of this terrible natural disaster in Asia and Africa," Hoeven said.
