Dalrymple Meets With U.S. Education Secretary Spellings
BISMARCK, N.D. - In a meeting this morning with Secretary of Education Margaret Spellings, Lt. Gov. Jack Dalrymple pressed for greater flexibility in the implementation of No Child Left Behind, particularly with regard to the challenge of meeting the needs of special populations in small communities and at reservation schools. Spellings told the Lt. Gov. that she is personally following the issue of highly qualified elementary teachers in North Dakota as it progresses, and that she is receptive to working with the Governor and state education officials to resolve other issues regarding the bill.
“Secretary Spellings made clear that she is committed to working through the outstanding issues of No Child Left Behind with us,” Dalrymple said. “We made progress on the teacher quality designation, but there are other elements of the bill that need to be addressed, especially as they uniquely affect North Dakota.”
