Dalrymple Announces Plan For Public Input On Final North Dakota Quarter Designs
BISMARCK, N.D. - Lt. Gov. Jack Dalrymple today announced the process for public input on the final design for the North Dakota state quarter. The North Dakota Quarter Design Selection Process Commission, headed by Dalrymple, released a comment card that allows individuals to choose their favorite design and tell the committee why they support that design.
“Each state has chosen their own process for selecting their quarter,” Dalrymple said. “I believe that we are unique in not only asking for individuals preference, but also giving them the opportunity to provide comments to support their decision.”
Comment cards will be sent to local chambers of commerce across the state, and will also be available at www.governor.nd.gov. Comments must be received no later than May 24, 2005. The state must submit the final design to the U.S. Mint by May 31, 2005.
The 50 State Quarters Program Act, passed by Congress in 1997, provides for the redesign of the reverse side of the quarter dollars with designs emblematic of each of the 50 states. Under the Act, a series of five quarter dollars with new reverses will be issued each year through 2008 celebrating each of the 50 states of the Union. The coins will be issued in the sequence that they became part of the United States of America. North Dakota joined the Union in 1889 as the 39th state.
“I am pleased by the tremendous amount of support and input that we have received from the public,” Dalrymple said. “The final two designs come directly from the themes submitted by the public at the start of the process.”
Gov. John Hoeven established the North Dakota Quarter Design Selection Process Commission to guide the process and develop the narrative concepts for the state quarter. Members include:
- Jack Dalrymple
- Jan Webb, North Dakota Council on the Arts
- Dina Butcher, former Exec. Director of the N.D. Agriculture Coalition, public member at large
