Governor Recognizes President Lee Vickers For Centers Of Excellence Leadership
BISMARCK, N.D. - Gov. John Hoeven today signed SB 2023, which includes $4.1 million in funding for Murphy Hall on the campus of Dickinson State University. The bill also includes $1.1 million in funding for a new interpretive center at Medora's Chateau de Mores, the historic home of Antoine de Vallombrosa, the Marquis de Mores and his wife, Medora, for whom the city is named.
Joining Hoeven for the signing were Dickinson Mayor Dennis Johnson, Sens. Rich Wardner, Herb Urlacher and Bill Bowman, and Reps. C.B. Haas, Shirley Meyer, Nancy Johnson, Frank Wald, Dave Drovdal and Keith Kempenich. Board of Higher Education member Pam Kostelecky also attended the signing.
"Murphy Hall and the new interpretive center at the Chateau are important for western North Dakota," Hoeven said. "Education and tourism are two of our most important priorities, which is why it is so exciting to see these projects well supported and moving forward."
At the same ceremony, Hoeven recognized Dickinson State University President Lee Vickers, who served as chairman of the Board of Higher Education's Centers of Excellence task force, and took a leadership role in helping to generate statewide support for the project. Centers of Excellence combine education and economic development to create higher paying jobs and career opportunities for North Dakota citizens.
"I want to thank Lee for his energetic support of our Centers of Excellence initiative, which is designed to stimulate the best ideas on all of our university campuses, and transform them into products, services - and jobs for our citizens," Hoeven said.
